Group Assignment #1

Each of you has been assigned a group and an artist to research together, either Emily Carr, Betty Goodwin, Dr. Gerald McMaster, or Victor Cicansky. This research project is about you playing a role in teaching the rest of the class about these artists. In your groups, everyone must claim a topic to research from the list of topics below. As an individual, you will only be responsible for researching your topic, however if you finish this relatively fast, you should take the time to assist anyone in your group who is struggling. As a group, you will have to collect the research all together on this wiki. You will place it in the chart below labelled Artist Information. Then comes the important part! Your group has to be prepared to share what they found with everyone else. Practice sharing each of your facts out loud. If your group still has time, why not think of something fun to add to your presentation? The information each person provides can be short and concise, but please try to use your own words. Also, remember, this is not a formal report! I want this to be casual and informal, and about sharing knowledge with your classmates.
List of Topics
- Where is this artist from?
- When was this artist born, and in what years were they creating art?
- What is their background heritage?
- What medium(s) do they like to work in?
- What kind of subject matter does this artist focus on?
- Does this artist address any particular social issues?
- What artistic elements or principles does this artist focus on?
- What makes this artist unique? (This will be partially based on opinion.)
You will have the entire class Thursday to prepare, so bring any information you will need from home. You will have access to my art books, but they must be shared. Emily Carr and Dr. Gerald McMaster groups present on Friday, Sept. 5th. Betty Goodwin and Victor Cicansky groups present on Monday, Sept. 8th. If you participate in this assignment, you will receive full marks, as I want the emphasis to be on participation and discussion, not on critical analysis of your work.
